Day 1. Brisbane – St George (MT,L,D)
Departing on our luxury ‘Gold Class’ coach from Brisbane Coach Terminal, we travel responsibly knowing all coach emissions are 100% offset. We journey through the Lockyer Valley, breaking at Picnic Point in Toowoomba for a cuppa before arriving at St George in the afternoon. 1 N ight: Merino
Day 2. St George – Lightning Ridge (B,L,D)
Today we board the coach with a local guide for a Heritage Tour of St George including a visit to Anchorage Homestead, one of the oldest homesteads in the shire. We then make our way to Riversands Wines for a tour of the vineyard followed by wine tasting and winery lunch. From St George we make our way to Lightning Ridge to meet our local guide from the Australian Opal Centre for an introduction to the fascinating world of opal mining. 3 Nights: Wallangulla Motel, Lightning Ridge
Day 3. Lightning Ridge (B,MT,L)
This morning our local guide shows this fascinating town. We visit Fred Bodel’s hut, the oldest miner’s camp in the area and the Historic Three Mile Flat, the site of the early miners’ settlement. After an opal cutting demonstration. We learn about the historic opal mining techniques at Lunatic Hill Open Cut. Next, we see the hand-built Amigo’s Castle. After lunch, we visit ‘Chambers of the Black Hand’ a national treasure in a 100 year old mine shaft. Tonight, it’s time to saddle up for the Easter at Lightning Ridge Festival at the Black Opal Bull & Bronc Ride. **Dinner is at your own expense tonight, with a wide array of food available at the bull ride.
Day 4. Lightning Ridge (B,D)
Experience the bustling energy of Lightning Ridge as the town celebrates Easter outback-style. There is something for everyone including the Miners Rickshaw Challenge, egg & spoon races, live entertainment and street stalls. Start the day with a moving Welcome to Country and performance by the Milan Dhiiyaan Aboriginal Dancers, then try your hand at The Big Dig or scavenger hunt. This afternoon we head to the Easter Horse Races for a unique outback racing experience. Tonight, we witness SPARK, an immersive cinematic experience under the stars, followed by a fireworks spectacular. **Lunch is at your own expense today.
Day 5. Lightning Ridge – Moree (B,D)
Take in the Sunday morning markets, attend an Easter Sunday church service, or head to the festival car show before we bid Lightning Ridge goodbye. From here our journey takes us through Collarenebri to Moree for the night. 1 Night: Artesian Spa Motel, Moree
Day 6. Moree – Brisbane (B,L)
Heading for home today we break at Summerland Camels in Harrisville to join a Cameleer for a guided behind-the-scenes tour of the wild camel training centre and dairy operation. We taste some of the camel milk products before enjoying lunch, then return to Brisbane Coach Terminal.
